Authority fined in planning row
A local authority in West Yorkshire has been fined after a housing development caused "unacceptable levels of nuisance" to existing residents.
Kirklees Council was fined £500 pounds after granting planning permission to the scheme without restricting the use of a private road leading to it.
Residents were plagued with noise, dust and damage to the road from traffic.
Local Government Ombudsman Patricia Thomas found the authority guilty of "maladministration causing injustice".
It has also been ordered to review how its planning department deals with complaints after failing to admit the error.
