Colchester: Councillor in the wrong
A councillor tried to influence a planning decision on a building next to his home, a standards board has ruled.
Roger Buston, also a lawyer, was investigated after concerns over his conduct on a planning application to demolish a Victorian house and build a block of flats on a site at the end of his garden in Maldon Road, Colchester.
While the Standards Board for England found he acted improperly and breached the code of conduct for councillors, it has decided no action needs to be taken.
Mr Buston reported himself for investigation by the Standards Board when concerns were raised.
Andrew Weavers, monitoring officer for Colchester Council, said: "I would say the reason the Standards Board has come to that conclusion is he did report himself to the Standards Board and apologised, and they took that into account."
Mr Buston declined to comment last night.
