Council pays compensation
Council bosses have backed down in a row with householders in a north Norfolk village and agreed to pay 10 people £250 each in compensation.
North Norfolk District Council was found guilty of maladministration causing injustice by the local government ombudsman over the way it handled a planning application for 10 affordable homes in Trunch, at Old Forge Close.
Ombudsman Jerry White found the council had failed to properly handle the plan, with villagers claiming their road safety concerns had not been considered.
Mr White decided the residents had been caused a “justified sense of grievance” by the council's actions and made a series of recommendations to the council, one of which was to pay each complainant £250 compensation.
The council considered the advice and said instead it wanted to pay the total amount of compensation - £2,500 - to the parish council, so it would benefit the whole community.
But after correspondence and a meeting between the council and the ombudsman, the council has decided to agree to the original recommendation.
